In the last 10 years I have been developing and applying breathing and meditation techniques as tools in organizational development consultancies of several companies in several countries, achieving very positive results in a very short term. I believe that one of the most important benefits of using these meditation techniques as a management tool has been the drastic reduction of resistance to change in a very short time by the Boards and staff. Applying breathing and meditation techniques to achieve positive changes in the management of organizational development processes, has given me a competitive advantage as a consultant.
In practice, I have learned how Meditation Influences the organizational development process in private or nonprofit companies. That is, using meditation techniques as a tool that is part of the organizational development strategy generating situations that contribute to the success of a company.
A study on the effects of meditation on executive performance shows that changes are generated, increasing tolerance levels and conflict management capabilities in general (J.C. Arias, PHD, DBA. July 2008). In another study, it was shown that the development of attention or concentration through daily meditation and breathing exercises contributes to well-being and better work performance in general (Marianetti, O. & Passmore, J. 2009).
In my experience as a consultant, I was able to observe very clearly and without a doubt how the levels of resistance and stress of the staff quickly dissolve in the face of the changes made in the organizational development implementation processes; Even when not everyone participates in the company, some choose not to meditate, but in one way or another, they are eventually energetically influenced by the work team or functional area to which they belong within the company, resulting in a acceptance and adoption of change.
Mackenzie, an associate professor in the Department of Management and Leadership at Dowling University in the USA, says that although the founding philosophy of management does not change, management tactics or strategies must change or adapt in response to the recognition of the modern worker and Spirituality in the work environment. (Maureen L. Mackenzie. 2011). In this sense, the application of specific meditation techniques proposes a viable alternative for the management of modern management.
In consulting, I conduct on-site training courses focused on organizational development goals and measuring the energy levels of staff, as well as work environments. Subsequently, the staff that participates voluntarily is taught different breathing and meditation techniques using defined techniques, following the stages of the organizational development in question.
The meditation technique used includes a combination of the following:
- Concentration in breathing combined with introspection of the physical body in the first instance and in the organizational development situation as a second instance.
- Creative visualization.
- Suggestive relaxation with concentration in breathing and in the specific topic related to the development activities of the organization.
There is currently a team of measurement of energy loads with scientific validity: High-voltage electrophotography, which consists in obtaining and computerized analysis of the electrophotonic emissions of different objects, including biological ones (specifically human fingers) , which result from the placement of the object in a high intensity electromagnetic field on the lens of the device. That is to say, that a measurement of the energy fields of the people involved in the organizational development activities and of the environments where they work to detect significant changes and possible patterns is correlated by correlating them with particular situations that arise with the staff.
In the last 15 years of experience, it is very clear how Meditation influences the process of organizational development of companies, taking into account that today there is much more openness to spiritual practices and that one can perceive the tendency towards a more conscious type of organizational culture in the energetic dynamics that are woven between people and companies. Using meditation as a technique or tool of the organizational development strategy, these energetic dynamics could be unveiled to work consciously and thus further enhance the success of a company.
